Lee Roy Selmon has a background that is a combination of family scholarships football and community service. First, the Selmon relatives. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. The family raised nine kids in a Eufala farm. He played football with three of his brothers for Oklahoma. The three brothers were all All-Americans. In 1973, Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the players for one season. Lee Roy received the Outland and Lombardi Awards for being the best lineman of the US. In the three years that Roy was on the field, Oklahoma won two National Championships. Selmon was given a second scholarship in 1975 and designated a National Football Foundation Student-Athlete. Selmon obtained his degree in education. Lee Roy was involved in volunteering for ten hours per week during his time at college. Following college, he relocated into Tampa and played nine years with the Buccaneers. He made the All-Pro 3 times. Then he started his professional career. The year 1988 was the first time he worked as an Account Relation Officer for First Florida Bank in Tampa. He worked for the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as well as the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It was not a surprise when the year 1982 was when The Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy as one of the 10 outstanding youngsters throughout the United States. Lee Roy was 6'2" tall and weighed 265 pounds when he played college football. He was a captain in 1975. was on the team. team. He was hired by the University of South Florida in 1993 as an associate director of sports. In 1988, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. He also made the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame as well as the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 gave their Distinguished American Award to his parents, Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor, who awarded this award.
